Waller, Grimes, and Montgomery County - September 5, 2011
The Riley Road Fire started on Monday, September 5th at approximately 3:02 pm, within a few hours it engulfed several hundreds of acres in Waller, Grimes and Montgomery counties. Approximately 18,960 acres were burnt; 10,604 in Waller County, 6,445 in Montgomery County and 1,909 in Grimes County; over 75 fire departments and other agencies worked the wildland fire over several days. Fire crews have successfully moped up the entire 45 mile perimeter and there are very few hot spots that remain as of September 14. The stronger winds in the fire area tested the integrity of these firelines and no spotovers have occurred. As of this date the fire has been successfully contained.
